Urbanization and climate change are pressing global challenges, and a geoinformatic approach offers crucial strategies for fostering sustainable cities that can thrive amidst these issues. By harnessing the power of geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, and data analytics, cities can make informed decisions and effectively mitigate environmental impacts. Geospatial tools enable urban planners to analyze land use patterns, promote smart growth, and enhance energy efficiency through audits and renewable energy mapping. Transportation planning benefits from geospatial insights, reducing congestion and emissions, while urban green spaces, waste management, and water resources can be optimized for sustainability. Moreover, geoinformatics aids in climate adaptation and community engagement, facilitating data sharing, visualization, and comprehensive monitoring. This holistic approach empowers cities to navigate the complex nexus of urbanization and climate change, creating resilient, environmentally responsible urban environments that prioritize the well-being of their residents. The goal of the seminar "Urbanisation and Climate Change: Strategies for Sustainable Cities, through geospatial technologies" is to convene experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to raise awareness about the critical intersections of urbanization and climate change, showcasing how geoinformatics can be employed to develop sustainable urban solutions. Through knowledge sharing, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovative geospatial technologies, the seminar aims to empower decision-makers, engage communities, and advocate for policies that foster resilient, environmentally responsible urban environments, ultimately contributing to the global effort to address the challenges posed by urbanization and climate change while prioritizing the well-being of urban populations.
